Corrections Corporation of America Elects Board of Directors At 2002 Annual Meeting of Stockholders

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 17, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Corrections Corporation of America (NYSE: CXW) announced today that at its 2002 Annual Stockholders Meeting held on Thursday, May 16, 2002, its stockholders elected ten members to the Company's Board of Directors.

The following ten individuals were elected as directors at the annual meeting, for a term expiring at the Company's 2003 annual meeting of stockholders: William F. Andrews, John D. Ferguson, Lucius E. Burch, III, John D. Correnti, John R. Horne, C. Michael Jacobi, Charles L. Overby, John R. Prann, Jr., Joseph V. Russell and Henri L. Wedell. At the annual meeting the Company also announced the engagement of Ernst & Young LLP as the Company's new independent auditors, replacing Arthur Andersen LLP.

The Company is the nation's largest owner and operator of privatized correctional and detention facilities and one of the largest prison operators in the United States, behind only the federal government and four states. The Company currently owns 39 correctional, detention and juvenile facilities, three of which are leased to other operators, and two additional facilities which are not yet in operation.
